Thats why it is important to know the difference between a trend and a passing fad. Trend is anything that develops intelligent building solutions. As the world is becoming more and more connected, web design trends wil be crucial for brands trying to reach new audiences. While the web is contantly evolving and adapting designers should be able to catch up and even better, create new exciting trends and solutions.
2019 will be all about prioritizing speed and mobile design as well as eye catching simple designs with asymmetrical layouts and video backgrounds. Here are 9 trends for web applications in 2019 thet you can expect:
Mobile first design starts with designing the site for the mobile user first before creating a desktop version of the website. In 2015 mobile searches overtook desktop searches overall, making mobile search the highest search form worldwide. Almost everyone these days shops and orders on their mobile phones.
Because of that the standard of designing websites has shifted from desktop to mobile centered design. Element as roll-out burger menu button has become established, minimizing the menu for the small screens. This design trend will likely be the trend for a long time to come due to the demand of mobile users which are in vast majority.
A grid can create a basic structure, a skeleton for your design. They consist of “invisible” lines upon which your design elements can be placed. Doing so ties them together in an overall “system” and supports your composition—rationally.
Historically, not using a grid or „improvising it“ has resulted in bad and distracting designs that keep the user from focusing on the most important information on the page. However, in 2017 asmmetrical and „broken“ layout was introduced. This was a big change and that trend is still going strong in 2018.
Broken grids have been gaining more and more popularity, mostly because of having found a way to not look like most other websites. Although large-scale brands still use traditional grid-based structures, there will be increased use of unusual layouts across the web,as brands are trying to set themselves apart. Bigger brands that can afford to take some risk will expect ou-of-the-box designs from their designers.
This trend is also emerging in logo design and naturally it has influenced web design. Flat design has been much more preferred web design trend over dimensional colors, but gradient are making a big comeback in 2018. Last time gradients were popular, they were in the form of subtle chading to suggest 3D.
Now, gradients are full of color and they are spread across the whole screen. Recent popular use of gradients is a gradient filter over photos. It is a great way to make a boring and dull image look intriguing and interesting. Simple gradient background can also be the perfect solution if you don`t have any other images to work with. This trend will still be present in 2019 as brands will struggle to distinguish themselves from the others.

Over the years, they`ve gotten smarter thanks to artificial intelligence and machine learning. Chatbots will continue to enhance user interactions with websites. When properly designed they can have different uses: frequentl asked questions, book a meeting, buying a basic item, resolve a complain, make a reservation. In 2019, this technology will continue to be perfected and incorporated into company websites. Web interactions will become seamless.
Sticky navigation is more and more prominent in web design. Trend is to have sticky elements at the top, bottom, or sides of the page, so it does not disturb the website visitor. You can use them to highlight a promotion, social media links , chatbot or call-to-action. Great use of sticky element is an arrow that takes user back to the top of the page, in case you have a lot of content on your page.
Major reason why single page design is becoming a trend is speed and minimalism. Single page design refers to websites that have only one page instead of multiple service pages or blog articles.
